The Biology of B-Movie Monsters A scientist explains why we don’t have to worry about giant-sized lizards, spiders or whatever. The basic concept really freaked me out when I first heard about it many years ago (in a discussion of some evolutionary concept, I think), and I still have to run the math in my head to remind myself of the reasons why if you took a fruitfly and blew it up to the size of a Buick it wouldn’t fly, while if you took a hippo and reduced it down to the size of a fruitfly it probably would.
