“The Comedy Circuit” chronicles scientists’ efforts to use MRI scanning to understand how people respond to humor, and what their response tells us about how the brain works.
To measure what humor consists of, they had people watch sitcoms while scanning their brains, and found that humor involves the language areas of the brain. But maybe that’s just because sitcoms mostly involve language-oriented humor (e.g. jokes that are written). What if they were watching something like the “Ow My Balls” show on Idiocracy?
